1。 Used Record or Second-Hand Record （from House of the Marionettes， あやつりの屋敷 Ayatsuri no Yashiki）， a story about people fighting over the ownership of a record that has a singer's singing as they died recorded on it。
2。 Shiver （from Slug Girl， なめくじの少女 Namekuji no Shoujo）， a story about a cursed jade stone that causes holes to open up all over a person's body if they're around it。
3。 Fashion Model （from Souichi's Diary of Curses， 双一の呪い日記， Sōichi no Noroi no Nikki）， a story about an oddly ominous fashion model。
4。 Hanging Balloons （from The Face Burglar， 顔泥棒 Kao Dorobou）， a story about balloon headed dopplegangers out to hunt their counterparts the moment they go outside。
5。 Marionette Mansion （from House of the Marionettes， あやつりの屋敷 Ayatsuri no Yashiki）， a story about a family who rather than deciding what they do or how they live， they instead hire puppeteers to control their actions via strings from the attic of their home。

So utterly disturbing， and so well drawn。 I have never been a big fan of horror movies or literature， but I’ve been reading Junji Ito on the recommendation of a friend。 His horror is creepy for me because he takes small annoyances or random ideas and magnifies them into the grotesque。 It’s awful but hypnotizing。 The incredible detail and skill of the artwork makes reading them a nearly visceral experience。

In the past two weeks I’ve read six of Junji Ito’s books， and they all have been fantastic。 I’m about to read my seventh now。 I just have to say， what a broad range of creativity this man has， and the way he executes everything with his amazing illustrations are just immaculate。 I love his work， and will forever be a fan。

3。5 Stars I was super happy to be able to read more Junji Ito！ Do I think this is a better story collection than Smashed？ Not necessarily， I'd say they're both really good :） Ito has a really interesting way of exploring different fears within his works， and due to the fact that horror is highly subjective naturally there were some hits and misses。 However， if you read both story collections you will eventually find one that will freak you out。 Also， a collection of stories will always be harder 3。5 Stars I was super happy to be able to read more Junji Ito！ Do I think this is a better story collection than Smashed？ Not necessarily， I'd say they're both really good :） Ito has a really interesting way of exploring different fears within his works， and due to the fact that horror is highly subjective naturally there were some hits and misses。 However， if you read both story collections you will eventually find one that will freak you out。 Also， a collection of stories will always be harder to give a high star rating， especially if you are rating each story individually。 So even though this was a 3。5 I still would highly recommend his works if you like horror and/ or manga。 Also， this book comes with explanations with how he created his concept for each story with a copy of his brainstorming and sketches， which I think is super valuable that I wish Smashed had included。 :）Individual rating:Used Record- 3 stars --> He uses a similar concept in Smashed。 Shiver- 2。5 stars --> Not particularly scary but someone with trypophobia （fear of small holes）， would be pretty disturbed。 Fashion Model- 2。5 stars --> I think this had a really interesting basis idea that could have been used slightly better in my opinion。 Personally， I would much rather a scenario where the protagonist sees this model yet is the only one who finds her disturbing and for what she truly is， while others perceive her as stunning。 This could then be used to make him them become isolated from his friends， in turn catalyzing his own psychological spiral while drawing her nearer。。。。 Sometimes I feel Ito has some really good concepts that can have really interesting social commentary but we never truly know what he is trying to convey。 Hanging Blimp- 4 stars --> cool idea， was unlike any concept I've ever seen。 Marionette Mansion- 4。5 stars --> cool concept！ I think his commentary was more clear in this story， and I really enjoyed his ability to subvert the idea。 Painter- 4 stars --> A story about obsession， it is also the first chapter of his Tomie series。 The Long Dream- 4 stars --> This was not violent， however it was definitely stress-inducing！ I think most people may have felt this way at least once in their lives。 Honored Ancestors- 3。5 stars --> Predictable in some aspects but I was completely surprised by another， was truly disturbed。 Greased- 4。5 stars --> Ok this was perhaps the most scary/disturbing/ disgusting story of them all！ Although not graphic in violence， it was super gross- it literally made me sick just looking at the graphics I had to look away。 I would definitely recommend :） 。。。more

I literally took so long to read this only because some of the stories grossed me out that bad。 I adore Junji Ito so much， he is a true master of his craft。 And like his other works I have read， I loved this so so much。 It was so creepy and gross and disturbing and absolutely beautifully drawn。 Love love love it！

I always love Junji Itos stories and this collection is my favourite by far！！ Non of the stories felt weak or boring each one was completely different and scary too。 Some of the stories in this collection are ones I read when I was first getting into Junji Ito- one， the hanging blimps （slides 4 & 7）， I read in the middle of the night- its my favourite bc it scared me sm 😭 I literally had nightmares that week and I'm scares of opening the blinds in the night incase I see one of those freakin ball I always love Junji Itos stories and this collection is my favourite by far！！ Non of the stories felt weak or boring each one was completely different and scary too。 Some of the stories in this collection are ones I read when I was first getting into Junji Ito- one， the hanging blimps （slides 4 & 7）， I read in the middle of the night- its my favourite bc it scared me sm 😭 I literally had nightmares that week and I'm scares of opening the blinds in the night incase I see one of those freakin balloons 🤦🏻♂️ I love the collection of stories bc after theres always a summary of how Ito got inspiration for his stories along with initial sketches！ He often talks about how he had dreams that inspired the stories and yeah I can see it bc these stories are nightmare fuel （coming from first hand experience 😭） so I definitely recommend this collection to start with if you want to get into horror！ Or if you like longer stories check out Uzumaki！ 。。。more
